How to create a Website? Web Design Tips & Ideas!

What should you think about when you have a website built or renewed?

In this article, I will give you tips for having a website built or modified on your website. One of my activities is building websites. Very often, I see websites that do not meet certain standard requirements.

For example, the website is not responsive, buttons, and CTAs that are not clickable or unclear what you can do on the website or what the company does at all. There are, of course, many things to keep in mind, so I have made a list of points that are important for a website.

This list of tips for building a website is intended when you:

1. Have a new website built

2. You want to have your current website renewed

3. Talk to a website builder

 How to Build a Website?

Here are some website design tips that you need to know while building a website:

1. The Price

The prices vary enormously among companies that build websites, but the price is an important aspect. It depends of course, on exactly what you want to build and which extra options you choose.

But if a website builder asks $ 3000 for a simple information website with a few pages and a few extra options, then you know that is not right.

a. Free

There are systems with which you can build free websites, but there are many limitations. If you want a serious website for your company, this is not recommended.

b. $ 250 to $ 1250

Independent online website builder who falls under this rate can make very nice websites, check in advance what you get for that price, and always ask for a portfolio. If you like it, then you can say yes if it doesn't appeal to you, then look further.

c. $ 1250 to $ 4000

Request your quote and get an amount between $ 1250 and $ 4000 back, you can assume that this is a website that is custom made. Or they work with special themes and are completely customized.

d. $ 25,000 or more

Websites such as the marketplace have spent quite a bit on their website. These are websites with options and functions that are explicitly written for the website by programmers.

2. Look and Feel of the Website

Make sure that you map in advance what the look and feel should be. You naturally want your website to be beautiful, although that is not the most important thing about a website, still.

Often when my customers don't know what exactly they want, I let them search for websites of companies that appeal to them, where they feel good about. As a website maker, I can take that input into account when building their website. Also, determine the photos that you want on your website and where they belong.

Also, make sure that you specify which colors you want to work with, I often work from the colors of the logo. Does your logo have the color black or white make sure that your website has an accent look again at what you want to radiate and then look at what color means as in the image below?

3. What is your Purpose?

Make sure you have a clear idea of the purpose of your website in advance. Do you want someone to buy something from you, do you want someone to contact you or have immediate insight into what your company is doing, a goal is very important because you might as well not build a website.

Spending money on a site where you only put some images on it and makes your mission and vision clear will not bring you the new customers.

4. Build from the Customer

You know your business through and know precisely what is what. But a visitor to the website, probably not a potential customer. So, make sure you organize your navigation from the customer's point of view. Make it clear what he/she can do and find on the website.

Ask yourself because the visitor to your website might want to know if he/she is coming to your website. Someone who searches in Google to have a website built and ends up on my website immediately sees an option for more information about website building.

5. Avoid Long Text

I understand that of course, you want to give as much information as possible, but a text of 3000 words on 1 page does not work unless it is an exciting blog of course! The online user wants to switch and preferably as quickly as possible, he/she wants to know immediately is it possible what I want, yes? Okay, nice I will continue on the website and contact.

No? Then I immediately go to the next one. Make sure you keep all information so short and to the point and divide it into small pieces, title, text, button. In this way, you help them with scanning and whether the information they are looking for can be found with you.

6. Live Gang

A website is never ready, when the site goes live, of course, the majority is what you have determined. But after that, it's essential to keep an eye on your website. Do you have a high bounce percentage? Where could there be better?

Provide content in the form of a blog or share news items. You also want to stay up to date for the search engines.

7. Updates & Modifications

When you have your website built-in, for example, WordPress, you will have to deal with updates. Always ask the web builder if he keeps track of this or whether you should do this yourself. If you do not perform those updates, you will encounter security issues. I check every Monday morning for updates to all the websites that I have built.

Do you want to be able to adjust things yourself or have them done? If you really have not eaten cheese from websites and systems, have your online website builder make the adjustments. If you have any feelings with CMS, then you can do it yourself.

But when you adjust something, and your website goes offline and does not work anymore, then you should not look foolish if an extra invoice falls on the mat. It all seems so simple.

8. Social Media Platforms

Do you have different Social Media channels? Then have it linked to your website. Let your website maker place icons with the link to, for example, your Facebook Page, but you can also opt for an Instagram Feed or Facebook like a box. Also, there are options for blog posts to be able to share on via Social Media.

9. Google

Make sure that your simple website builder immediately creates a Google Analytics account for you. This is because you measure your website visits, but also the bounce rate and much more information. If you know how it works, you can also provide the code yourself. Make sure that you are the owner of the account and not the website builder.

Have your website also added to Google Webmaster tools, this also works with a code on your website. By adding your website to Google Webmaster tools, Google can index your site.

This is done using a sitemap, which is a sort of summary of everything on your website. You load it into Google Webmaster tools so that Google can index your website.

10. SEO

Ask for options for SEO and whether your online web builder can realize this for you. If you want to get everything from SEO, you have to pay for it. But there are many things that contribute to SEO that the website builder can help you with.

11. Extras

Also, consider whether you want a blog, a search function, a portfolio, newsletter registration form, buttons, contact form, or pop-up all options that you can have installed on the website by your website builder.

The most important part of a perfect website is making the website mobile responsive. Here are some tips on how to optimize mobile websites.

The need to have a mobile website no longer surprises anyone. However, just having such a website is not enough.

Therefore, one should ask the question of whether the website we run meets both the expectations of users and takes into account the specificity of mobile devices themselves. A well-optimized website can help to keep Internet users' attention and, as a consequence, gain a competitive advantage.

Optimization of the mobile website, i.e., mobile SEO, is called adapting the website to the search engine, taking into account such elements as its appearance, structure, speed of loading the website or content placed on it. Below are tips that are worth paying attention to when optimizing mobile pages.

  • Remember to organize and compact the content

The content on the page should display well, i.e., the user should not be forced to enlarge it or move it sideways. This does not mean that there should be less information on the site. Currently, most people are used to scrolling content, so they won't mind scrolling.

Another factor is the display of your site in search results. It is therefore good to take into account the size of mobile device screens when creating the SEO page title, URL, or meta description (page description that indicates to the user what content can be expected on a given page).

  • The appropriate size of buttons on the page

There are two options for displaying websites on mobile devices. The first is to ensure the responsiveness of the page, which in practice boils down to the fact that its size (resolution, size of icons, etc.) itself adapts to the type of device. In this case, the URL and HTML code for the standard and responsive versions always remain the same.

The appearance of the site and the content placed on it will not differ, regardless of whether we will watch it in a desktop or mobile version. The second option is a mobile URL, where the website address and HTML code are different from the standard version.

If you have a mobile URL, a new version of the page is created, which may look different from the desktop version.

It should be remembered, therefore, that when creating a mobile version of the page, the size of the buttons placed on it is essential.

The right size of buttons should provide users with free navigation on the site, who usually use one finger to click on individual pages. The icons should be large enough to be clicked without using the zoom.

  • Optimize Forms

This is a particularly important point for online stores. Remember that any descriptions should be above or below the fields to be completed. Thanks to this, you should ensure the visibility of specific fields, but also, the site will become narrower.

An additional issue is placing information about the registration or order progress, as well as indicating incorrectly completed fields. Such factors should be obvious not only for mobile websites but generally accepted standards.

Consider which plugins are suitable for mobile devices

When someone gets to your site, you do not want him to miss some information. First of all, the user will not be happy if he doesn't see all the content, and black squares will appear instead.

Secondly, it can be lossy for the site owner because he either won't reach the user with his message, or he will lose it when the annoyed one leaves the site. So, remember to check which plugins work well on mobile devices and avoid the ones that don't work!

Most mobile devices do not support such plugins as java-script, quick time player, or flash. It is also worth considering whether it is necessary to use pop-ups. Placing them in the mobile version is not the right solution, and you should make sure that they do not cover the entire screen and are easy to turn off.

  • Website loading time should be as short as possible

Page load time is another basic and would seem obvious. When do people browse pages on mobile devices? When they are on the road, they often hurry and do not want to waste time. If your website cannot keep up with users' needs, you will lose customers!

An excellent way to check page loading speed is to use the Page Speed Insights tool, which will show you the elements to improve to speed up the page loading process.

Google's improvements also emphasize page loading speed. AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) technology, which focuses on providing even faster mobile pages, can also be a solution.

  • Make the site transparent

In this case, there are visual factors. Nevertheless, the site should be transparent. It is worth placing the most important information at the top of the page. It is also good to make the content visible so that it is visible to the user.

However, moderation should be maintained so that too vivid, contrasting colors do not strain the user.

  • Draw conclusions from the reports

If we decide on a separate mobile version of the page, remember to submit it to Google Search Console. An additional advantage of submitting the site is provided by this tool, information about errors, and other necessary elements of the mobile page.

Another valuable source of knowledge can be reported from Google Analytics. They will let you know what information is most often searched for on mobile devices, and thus you will be able to place them on the first screen. Additional information provided by Google Analytics is data showing on which devices your website is visited.

Why should you take care of the above factors? Google looks favorably on mobile pages in search results. In addition, it is worth adapting to the requirements of users who use mobile devices to obtain information quickly.

A well-optimized mobile website can bring only benefits like increase users, stop them from browsing competitors' sites, and consequently increase the company's profits.

12. Important questions

With the questions below, you can go to your website builder so that you can enter into a clear and good collaboration together.
